Lead-farm checker

About to fill in a loan form? Answer six quick questions about the website first. You'll know whether your details are likely to stay with one team or be passed around.

  1. 1Does the site show a real business name and an ABN you could look up?

  2. 2Does it say clearly who will contact you after you submit?

  3. 3Does the fine print mention sharing with partners, a panel, a network or third parties?

  4. 4Does it promise quotes or offers from several lenders?

  5. 5Does submitting trigger a credit check, or does the site not say?

  6. 6Does it promise approval or pre-approval before asking about your business?

Answer the questions above to see how the site scores.

Why check a loan website before you submit?

Because what happens to your enquiry after you press the button varies enormously. Some websites belong to a lender that assesses and funds loans itself. Some belong to a broker who works on your application personally. And some are lead farms: sites that collect enquiries and pass or sell them to several buyers at once. Online, all three can look almost identical.

The difference shows up afterwards. A lead farm can mean a dozen calls from companies you've never heard of, the same questions over and over, and, if you proceed with more than one of them, several credit enquiries on your file. Each enquiry stays on your credit report for five years. Our page on lead farms and comparison sites explains the pattern in detail.

What do the six questions look for?

  • Identity: a real business name and ABN you can look up.
  • Contact: a clear statement of who will call you.
  • Sharing: consent wording that mentions partners, a panel, a network or third parties.
  • Crowds: promises of quotes from multiple lenders.
  • Credit checks: whether submitting triggers one, or the site doesn't say.
  • Too-good promises: approval or "pre-approval" before any real questions.

None of these on their own proves anything. Together they give a quick, fair read of how a site is likely to treat your details. If you'd like to dig deeper, see broker vs lead generator vs lender, and for the rarer, more serious cases, our checklist of business loan scam warning signs.

What should I do if a site scores badly?

Close the tab, or at least read the privacy policy before you submit anything. If you've already filled in a form and the calls have started, our step-by-step on stopping loan marketing calls shows how to withdraw consent, unsubscribe and find out where your details came from.

How would Hassle Free Loans score?

We'd like to think we pass comfortably, because we built the business around these exact frustrations. Your enquiry goes to our own lending team, not a pile of lenders. There's no credit check when you first enquire. One real person calls and explains your options in plain English. You can try the enquiry and judge for yourself; it takes about a minute. Please fill it in accurately so we can match you properly first time.

Lead-farm checker questions

What is a lead farm?

A website whose real product is your enquiry. It collects your details and passes or sells them to several lenders or brokers, each of which may then contact you.

Is this checker definitive?

No. It's a quick way to spot the usual warning signs. A site with several flags isn't necessarily doing anything wrong, but you should read its privacy wording closely before submitting.

Where do I find the consent wording?

Usually in small print near the submit button, in a tick box, or in the privacy policy linked from the form. Look for words like partners, panel, network or third parties.

I've already submitted a form to a lead farm. What now?

Ask each caller to stop and to tell you where they got your details, unsubscribe from emails and reply STOP to texts. Our page on stopping loan marketing calls has the full steps.
